Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
